No person dare sacrifice his integrity to make people like him, such as flattery or manipulation. But it is wise to make people like you if you can do so with honest and sincere words or actions toward them. I have discovered there are 12 honorable ways to make people like you.
- Look people in the eye – Be a good listener.
- Show a genuine interest in others
- Remember that a person’s first name is the sweetest music on earth. Illus. Carnegie relates that Jim Farley knew 50 thousand people by their first name and put Franklin Roosevelt in the White House 4 times. When I read this I resolved to know the first name of my people. Few things have enriched my relationship more.
- Don’t talk much yourself but encourage others to talk about themselves.
- Talk about the other person’s interest, not yours.
- Compliment the person sincerely for at least one good trait that you see in him.
- Make others feel important.
- Treat others better than they treat you.
- Smile
- Say a good word about a person to his closest friend.
- Remember the person with a gift of appreciation.
- Sincerely pray for God to bless the person.
Spiritually speaking why should we want people to like us? Because ministry is based on relationships and if people like you, you will enjoy a fine relationship. This relationship opens the door for you win them Christ or to build them up in their Christian faith and walk.
