LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
As we run the race that is set before us, sometimes we are faced with decisions that require action. And at the end of the day, these decisions are at their core choices to obey God or not. Sometimes what we “see” or are experiencing in the here and now tell us that it is to our advantage to obey God. Meaning, if we obey, we can “see” that we will get rewarded immediately somehow by the result of that decision to obey. But often times, a decision to obey God does not seem to benefit us in the immediate here and now. As a matter of fact, it seems that that decision might even cause us some difficulty or discomfort in the immediate aftermath. In other words, what we “see” is screaming at us that obedience in the current decision is not in our immediate best interest nor does it produce a result that WE WANT. When you are faced with a decision to obey when it doesn’t make sense to according to what you “see,” what do you normally do? What criteria do you normally use to make the final decision? Is your focus usually a “here and now” focus? Or is it a “hereafter” or eternal focus? Please think and pray through this. Be prepared to discuss your struggles in this area as well as times when you “ran well.”
