LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Now that we have a clearer understanding of what the “weights” are in Heb. 12:1, combined with the knowledge that we are to lay every one of them aside in order to effectively run the Christian race, it seems like the logical next step is to identify these weights in our lives. So, that is our life application work beginning this week, let’s identify our weights.
Now remember, these weights can be very subtle. Here is a non-exhaustive list of some possibilities to kind of jump-start your search:
- Could be distractions: anything that takes your primary focus and behavior away from Jesus.
- Could be excessive worries or fears.
- Could be excessive worldly attachments to things like money, material possessions, or unnecessary responsibilities.
- Could be unhealthy relationships or it could be habits that weigh you down.
- Could be comfort, sleep, family, service, general busyness, doing good things.
- It could be legalism in the form of falling into a performance based relationship with God where you step into the enemy’s trap of being terrified of doing something wrong and/or never feeling like you’ve done enough to please God. Which leads to an inability to know and understand what it means to be under grace and to walk in the freedom of His grace. Which diminishes your desire to be with and commune with Jesus on a daily basis.
- It could be excessive small abuses of Christian freedom and grace.
- And so on…
