10 Smart Swaps that Save Calories

One of the keys to achieving long-term weight loss success is to find ways to continue enjoying your favorite types of foods while you save calories. Whether you’re snacking or grabbing lunch on the go, these 10 easy swaps will save calories and satisfy your cravings.

  1. In the mood for a crunchy snack? Swap an ounce of Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips for two cups of air-popped popcorn to save 78 calories.
  2. Instead of splitting a Chili’s Awesome Blossom and sauce with three friends, snack on one medium order of Burger King onion rings to save 357 calories.
  3. Swap a cup of strawberry ice cream for a Yoplait Whips, Strawberry Mist flavor, to save 114 calories.
  4. Chicken isn’t always the best choice when it comes to saving calories. Swap a Wendy’s Chicken Club Sandwich for a Cheeseburger to save 300 calories.
  5. Swap a 1.7-oz. package of M&M’s Plain Chocolate candies for a half cup of Kozy Shack Real Chocolate pudding to get a chocolate fix while saving almost 100 calories.
  6. Wraps sound diet-friendly, but often they are not the best choice. Swap an Au Bon Pain Chicken Caesar Wrap for one 8-oz. low-fat chicken noodle soup to save almost 500 calories.
  7. It’s not a fiesta for your waistline if you order Applebee’s Fiesta Lime Chicken. Swap it for a Tortilla Chicken Melt from the appetizer menu to save a whopping 805 calories.
  8. Swap a Wendy’s Garden Sensations Southwest Taco Salad for a Garden Sensations Caesar Chicken Salad and save 250 calories.
  9. Take your own treat to the mall. Swap one Field’s semi-sweet chocolate chip cookie for 13 (yes, 13!) Miss Meringue Chocolate Chip Minis to save 170 calories.
  10. Chicken is a great salad topper, but fried or crispy chicken ups the fat and calories. For example, at Burger King, if you swap a Tendercrisp Garden Salad for a Tendergrill Garden Salad, you will save 180 calories.
