ADDITIONAL CONTENT
Thad included a list of examples a couple of weeks ago of what it looks like to be wise/unwise in our interactions with the world. These lists are by no means exhaustive but help us see what this looks like. Here they are:
- What is unwise?
- Joining an unbeliever in sin in the name of “winning them”…(This would not be loving God because, remember, if we love Him we will obey Him, and sin is the opposite of obedience.)
- Staying away from unbelievers in the name of Jesus because of their sin…(This is also not loving God. He told us to go to the lost.)
- Not having the correct intent concerning whether or not you will spend time with unbelievers…
- Judging unbelievers as unworthy of your time or attention because they are pagans…
- Aggressively slapping people upside the head with the Gospel because they “NEED” it (If I slapped you with broccoli would you want to eat it?)
- Thinking that it is enough simply to behave well but never open your mouth to share Jesus…
- Thinking that a person’s salvation is reliant on your skill as a sharer, orator, or theologian…
- Not knowing when you are casting pearls before swine…
- Having a motive that is greater in priority than winning the lost for being with them…
- Telling the unbeliever that you are hanging with them to win them…
- Not actually caring for them and loving them in a real relationship
- Treating this as if you are trying to make a sale…(e.g., a car dealer is best friend until you say no.)
- Ask yourself is just being there with the lost in your life sinful (sometimes yes, sometimes no)?
- Ask yourself is just being there putting you in danger of making another believer stumble?
- What is wise?
- Loving what God loves… unbelievers, sinners…(we each were once there)
- Hating what God hates…
- Being intentional in your interaction with unbelievers. Namely to WIN them…
- Being ready to witness for Jesus whenever the opportunity presents itself…
- Purposefully training yourself to share…
- Intentionally and strategically orchestrating relationships and meetings toward this end…
- Opening your mouth in faith when the time comes even if you don’t feel like you know what to say…
- Caring about their eternal destiny…
- Treating them like Jesus did: full of grace and truth…
